StopBabiesCry
59How do we stop a baby's cry?
Well It depends what they are crying for. Each Cry is slightly different. You have to weigh up all your options and think what has just started your baby crying.
Did you just feed your baby and they could be windy.
Or is it a tummy or a bowl problem.
Or Do they just stop when you pick them up.
Well I have looked after more than 30 or so babies over the years and have discovered every baby reacts differently to different remedies. When you are caring for someone elses baby you have to try alot of different things to settle the child as you are both getting to know one another. The child is still in the bonding stage with you.
I always look for any visual signs like darkness or blueness around the lips or tummy is really tight and tense. They are signs of wind pain which needs to come out one way or another.
I found holding the child different ways. You will know when the baby feels comfortable as the cry will slightly change or stop for awhile.
Face baby outwards with your arm to the front resting your baby on your stomach and rocking while you stand. I find standing when doing this seems to help, even sing or huming a soft tune. Baby should always be slightly elevated help the wind to escape threw burping. The old shoulder technique still works as well.
You can rest the baby across the inside of your forearm longways with the other arm across the back of your baby to help support them while they are looking downwards at the floor, you could rub their little back of pat lightly to get rid of what is bothering them.
Give them boiled water in a babies bottle slightly warm which can settle them. That's if they take bottle. If they are breast fed I find it is good introduce the bottle as soon as they are born because they will adjust better and it is good to give them water even if they are breast fed.
I found I couldn't just breast feed, so my babies would be on bottle and breast which helped settle my babies as I don't think I had enough breast milk but still wanted them to get the benefits which come from it. So I did both. This was something I discovered after my first child.
Everyone can make a decission on what suits them breast feeding, bottle or both.
You can give them a luke warm bath as well, this can settle them. You tend to try whatever works because the aim is to stop baby crying.
Don't get me wrong I think it is healthy for a baby to open then lungs now and again as long as they are not in pain.
Sometimes a baby just wants to be cuddled. You just have to remember they can start to understand at an early age that mum will pick me up everytime I make a noise. Well don't rush over to pick them up they might just want to be moved or they are wet and could be put back down once they have been changed.
I think they need to learn to play on the floor on something like a blanket or in a playpen with things to look at. They can become quite independant and it doesn't make you a bad mother. Your child is learning to explore and look around. You interact with them enough when you feed, change and bath them.
They will soon let you know when they have had enough. I always use panadol as a last resort unless the child is showing a temp or signs of not settling. It is very important that you try not to show too much stress and remain calm as this will also help with calming your baby. Humming lullabys can also relax you as well as your baby.
If your a new mum find your nearest baby clinic are great for new mums especially.
Well See how you go with my helpfull hints, no harm in trying.
